As of June 1, 2019, the city had an estimated population of 1,199,391. The gross domestic product (GDP) in Greater Hiroshima, Hiroshima Urban Employment Area, was US$61.3 billion as of 2010.[3][4] Kazumi Matsui has been the city's mayor since April 2011. The Hiroshima metropolitan area is the second largest urban area in the Chugoku region of Japan, following the Okayama metropolitan area.

2．Kure, Hiroshima
Kure (呉市, Kure-shi) is a port and major shipbuilding city situated on the Seto Inland Sea in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. With a strong industrial and naval heritage, Kure hosts the second-oldest naval dockyard in Japan and remains an important base for the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) named, JMSDF Kure Naval Base. As of 1 May 2015, the city has an estimated population of 228,030 and a population density of 646 persons per km2. The total area is 352.80 km2.

3．Takehara, Hiroshima
Takehara (竹原市, Takehara-shi) is a city located in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. The city was founded on November 3, 1958. As of 2016, the city has an estimated population of 26,035 and a population density of 220 persons per km2. The total area is 118.30 km2. Ōkunoshima, the island where a poison gas plant of the Imperial Japanese Army was located, belongs to Takehara. Occupying a strategic location on the Seto Inland Sea, it became renowned as a port city in the Muromachi period and then flourished as a centre of the salt industry in the latter days of the Edo period. More recently, it has styled itself as "The Little Kyoto of Aki" and the Special Historical District of old warehouses was selected as one of Japan's "100 Most Scenic Towns".

4．Mihara, Hiroshima
Mihara (三原市, Mihara-shi) is a city located in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. The city was founded on November 15, 1936. As of July 31, 2016, the city has an estimated population of 97,324 and a population density of 206.62 persons per km2. The total area is 471.03 km2. On March 22, 2005, the town of Daiwa (from Kamo District), the town of Kui (from Mitsugi District), and the town of Hongō (from Toyota District) were merged into Mihara.

5．Onomichi
Onomichi (尾道市, Onomichi-shi) is a city located in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan, facing the Inland Sea. The city was founded on April 1, 1898. As of April 30, 2016, the city has an estimated population of 141,811 and a population density of 497.8 persons per km2. The total area is 284.85 km2. It is well known for being featured in the 1953 film Tokyo Story, the 1960 film The Naked Island, and the 2016 video game Yakuza 6: The Song of Life.

6．Fukuyama, Hiroshima
Fukuyama (福山市, Fukuyama-shi) is a city located on the Ashida River in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. As of September 30, 2019, the city has an estimated population of 468,812 and a population density of 904.80 persons per km2. The total area is 518.14 km2 (200.05 sq mi). After Hiroshima, it is the largest city in Hiroshima Prefecture and is located on the far east side of the prefecture. The city's symbol is the rose and it holds an annual Rose Festival in the month of May. The official mascot of Fukuyama is an anthropomorphic rose child by the name of Rola. Fukuyama is a vital commercial, industrial and communications center. It produces machinery, koto (Japanese harps), rubber products, electronics, textiles, and processed foods.

7．Fuchū, Hiroshima
Fuchū (府中市, Fuchū-shi) is a city located in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. It was originally the capital of the former Bingo Province. The city was founded on March 31, 1954. Fuchū, Tokyo became a city the following day. As of May 1, 2011, population data, the city has an estimated population of 43,932, with 17,602 households and a population density of 224.47 people per km². The total area is 195.71 km². On April 1, 2004, the town of Jōge (from Kōnu District) was merged into Fuchū.

8．Miyoshi, Hiroshima
Miyoshi (三次市, Miyoshi-shi) is a city located in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. The city was founded on March 31, 1954. As of May 2017, the city has an estimated population of 53,616 and a population density of 69 persons per km2. The total area is 778 km2. On April 1, 2004, Miyoshi absorbed the towns of Kisa, Mirasaka and Miwa, the villages of Funo, Kimita and Sakugi (all from Futami District), and the town of Kōnu (from Kōnu District) to create the new and expanded city of Miyoshi. Futami District was dissolved as a result of this merger.

9．Shōbara, Hiroshima
Shōbara (庄原市, Shōbara-shi) is a city located in northeastern Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. The city was founded on March 31, 1954. As of November 1, 2021, the city has an estimated population of 33,476 and a population density of 26.85 persons per km². The total area is 1,246.60 km². On March 31, 2005, the towns of Hiwa, Kuchiwa, Saijō, Takano, and Tōjō (all from Hiba District), and the town of Sōryō (from Kōnu District) were merged into Shōbara. Hiba District and Kōnu District were both dissolved as a result of this merger.

Ōtake (大竹市, ōtake-shi) is a city located in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. As of May 1, 2017, the city has an estimated population of 27,684, with 12,939 households, and a population density of 350 persons per km2. The total area is 78.57 km2.

11．Higashihiroshima
Higashihiroshima (東広島市, Higashihiroshima-shi) is a city located in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. As of July 31. 2016 the city has an estimated population of 185,418 and a population density of 291.85 persons per km2. The total area is 635.32 km2. Higashihiroshima is a university town of Hiroshima University. Higashihiroshima is adjacent to Hiroshima, and serves as a commuter town for the city. The literal translation of the city's name is "Eastern Hiroshima." From old times, Higashihiroshima is famous for making sake, and along the Sakagura Dōri ("Sake Storehouse Road") area near JR Saijō Station are the Namako wall (white-lattice walled) and Sekishu Gawara (red-roof tile) roofs of ten well-known sake breweries. An annual sake matsuri is held every October. The city was founded on April 20, 1974, from the merger of the four towns of Saijō, Hachihonmatsu, Shiwa and Takaya in Kamo District. In 1992, the population reached 100,000. On February 7, 2005, the towns of Kurose, Kōchi, Toyosaka and Fukutomi (all from Kamo District), and the town of Akitsu (from Toyota District) were merged into Higashihiroshima.

12．Hatsukaichi
Hatsukaichi (廿日市市, Hatsukaichi-shi) is a city located in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. The name derives from a market traditionally held on the 20th of each month with hatsuka (廿日) meaning "20th day" and ichi (市) translating to "market". The market continues to this day on a small scale featuring fresh, locally grown vegetables and foodstuffs. Following the absorption of the nearby towns of Ōno and Miyajima on November 3, 2005 (as of September 1, 2016), Hatsukaichi has a population of 117,106 and a population density of 239.36 persons per km². The total land area stands at 489.36 km².

13．Akitakata, Hiroshima
Akitakata (安芸高田市, Akitakata-shi) is a city located in north-central Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. As of April 1, 2011, the city has a population of 31,565, with 13,223 households and a population density of 59 persons per km². of The total area is 538.17 km². The modern city of Akitakata was established on March 1, 2004, from the merger of the towns of Kōda, Midori, Mukaihara, Takamiya, Yachiyo and Yoshida (all from Takata District). Therefore, Takata District was dissolved as a result of this merger. It is a mountainous farming area known for many traditional events as well as certain food products. One such food product is Ebisu tea, a sweet fragrant tea, that comes from Mukaihara Town. Another is yuzu juice (柚子ジュース), a product of the Kawane area of Takamiya town in the northeastern part of the city. The city also lays claim to be the birthplace and hometown of Mōri Motonari, the Warring States-era daimyō of the 16th century.

14．Etajima, Hiroshima
Etajima (江田島市, Etajima-shi) is a city (formerly a town) located on the island of Etajima in Hiroshima Bay in southwestern Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. The modern city of Etajima was established on November 1, 2004, from the merger of the town of Etajima (from Aki District) absorbing three towns from Saeki District: Nōmi, Ōgaki, and Okimi. As of December 31, 2016, population data, the city has an estimated population of 24,596 and a population density of 240 persons per km². The total area is 100.97 km². A naval museum and the Naval Academy Etajima is located in the portion of the city that was the town. Etajima holds two annual marathons, the Orange Marathon and the Oyster Marathon. The Orange Marathon has been held for more than two decades. It is held every year in October, at the beginning of the orange season. Each participant is rewarded for their efforts with a bag of locally grown oranges. The 23rd Annual Orange Marathon in 2008 had over 2000 participants for 1K, 3K, 5K, and 10K runs, and a half-marathon. The Oyster Marathon is relatively a smaller scale marathon. Participants are rewarded with oysters. On March 14, 2013, a man went on a stabbing rampage in Etajima, killing two co-workers and wounding six others.

17．Kumano, Hiroshima
Kumano (熊野町, Kumano-chō) is a town located in Aki District, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. Kumano-cho is famous for the manufacture of brushes called "Kumano-fude" (Kumano-brush).The town is adjacent to Hiroshima, Kure and Higashihiroshima, so it's also a commuter towns of those cities. As of August 1, 2013, the town has an estimated population of 24,009 and a density of 710 persons per km². The total area is 33.62 km². The altitude above sea level is about 230 meters at the basin of the plateau. Kumano-cho is known as the best manufacturers of Japanese brush pens. The town commemorated its 90th anniversary since its establishment in 2008, and announced “The Brush Pen Day” on Spring Equinox for the purpose of reviving brush pen culture and the further development of brush pen industries. All of the town workers, business groups, and citizens are working together to appeal the brush pens.

Akiōta (安芸太田町, Akiōta-chō) is a town in Yamagata District, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. Akiōta was formed on October 1, 2004 from the merger of the towns of Kake and Togouchi, and the village of Tsutsuga, all from Yamagata District. As of April 30, 2017, the town has an estimated population of 6,585, with 3,207 households, and a population density of 19 persons per km². The total area is 342.25 km². On April 7, 2020, Shinji Kosaka, the Mayor of Akiōta Town resigned after having accepted 200,000 yen from former Minister of Justice Katsuyuki Kawai in a vote-buying scandal.

20．Kitahiroshima, Hiroshima
Kitahiroshima (北広島町, Kitahiroshima-chō) is a town in Yamagata District, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. Kitahiroshima was formed on February 1, 2005 from the merger of the towns of Chiyoda, Geihoku, Ōasa and Toyohira, all from Yamagata District. As of April 30, 2017, population data, the town has an estimated population of 19,115, with 8,508 households, and a population density of 30 inhabitants per square kilometre (78/sq mi). The total area is 645.86 km2 (249.37 sq mi).

21．Ōsakikamijima, Hiroshima
Ōsakikamijima (大崎上島町, Ōsakikamijima-chō) is a town located in Toyota District, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. The Toyota District comprises a small island of the Geiyo Islands of the Seto Inland Sea, which separates Hiroshima Prefecture and Ehime Prefecture. Ōsakikamijima is the only town on the island. As of April 30, 2017, the town had an estimated population of 7,801 and a density of 180 persons per km². The total area is 43.24 km². On April 1, 2003 the towns of Ōsaki, Higashino and Kinoe, all from Toyota District, merged to form the new town of Ōsakikamijima.

22．Sera, Hiroshima
Sera (世羅町, Sera-chō) is a town located in Sera District, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. On October 1, 2004, the towns of Kōzan and Seranishi, both from Sera District, were merged into the expanded town of Sera. As of the merger but with 2003 population data, the town has an estimated population of 19,213 and a density of 69.04 persons per km². The total (expanded) area is 278.29 km². After the merger, the former Sera Town Hall officially closed down and the new town hall is now located in the former town of Kōzan.

23．Jinsekikōgen, Hiroshima
Jinsekikōgen (神石高原町, Jinsekikōgen-chō) is a town located in Jinseki District, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. Jinsekikōgen was created on November 5, 2004 from the merger of the towns of Jinseki, Yuki and Sanwa, and the village of Toyomatsu. Before Toyomatsu was incorporated, it was the last remaining village within Hiroshima Prefecture.As of May 1, 2017 population data, the town has an estimated population of 9,427 and a density of 25 persons per km². The total area is 381.81 km².
