2．Beppu
Beppu (別府市, Beppu-shi) is a city in Ōita Prefecture on the island of Kyushu, Japan. As of March 31, 2017, the city had a population of 122,643 and a population density of 980/km2 (2,500/sq mi). The total area is 125.13 km2 (48.31 sq mi). Beppu is famous for its hot springs.

3．Nakatsu, Ōita
Nakatsu (中津市, Nakatsu-shi) is a city on the northern border of Ōita Prefecture in Kyushu, Japan. The city is on the border with Fukuoka Prefecture. Nakatsu was founded on April 20, 1929. As of March 2017, the city has an estimated population of 84,701 and a population density of 170 people per km2. The total area is 491.09 km2.

4．Hita, Ōita
Hita (日田市, Hita-shi) is a city located in Ōita Prefecture, Japan that was founded on December 11, 1940. It is an agricultural and industrial centre that primarily produces lumber, furniture, and pottery. Its attractions and scenic beauty also make it a popular tourist destination. On March 22, 2005, the towns of Amagase and Ōyama, and the villages of Kamitsue, Maetsue and Nakatsue (all from Hita District) were merged into Hita. As of December 31, 2019, Hita has a population of 64,874.

5．Saiki, Ōita
Saiki (佐伯市, Saiki-shi) is a city located in Ōita Prefecture, Japan. The city was founded on April 29, 1941. On March 3, 2005, Saiki merged with the towns of Kamae, Kamiura, Tsurumi, Ume and Yayoi, and the villages Honjō, Naokawa and Yonōzu (all from Minamiamabe District) to create the new and expanded Saiki City. Minamiamabe District was dissolved as a result of this merger. As of March 2017, the new city has an estimated population of 73,546 (former city, 2003: 49,183) and a population density of 81 persons per km2. The total area is 903.44 km2, making it the largest city by area in Kyushu.

6．Usuki, Ōita
Usuki (臼杵市, Usuki-shi) is a city located on the east coast of Ōita Prefecture, Japan. It is famous for its Usuki Stone Buddhas, a national treasure, and its soy sauce production. Recently it has become known for having the look and feel of a Japanese castle town. It is part of Ōita City's metropolitan area through economics and thus has strong ties to Ōita City.

Taketa (竹田市, Taketa-shi) is a city located in Ōita Prefecture, Japan. The city was founded on March 31, 1954. On April 1, 2005, the towns of Kujū, Naoiri and Ogi (all from Naoiri District) were also merged into Taketa. As of March 31, 2017, the city has an estimated population of 22,661, with 10,393 households and a population density of 47 persons per km². The total area is 477.59 km². Oka Castle is a famous local historic site.

Bungotakada (豊後高田市, Bungotakada-shi) is a city located in Ōita Prefecture, Kyushu, Japan. As of March 31, 2017, the city has an estimated population of 23,059, with 10,595 households and a population density of 110 persons per km². The total area is 206.65 km².On March 31, 2005, the towns of Kakaji and Matama (both from Nishikunisaki District) were merged into Bungotakada.

11．Usa, Ōita
Usa (宇佐市, Usa-shi) is a city located in Ōita Prefecture, Japan at the tip of Kunisaki Peninsula in northern Kyushu. Notable for the Usa Jingū, the head shrine of all 40,000 Hachiman shrines across Japan, the city annually attracts as many as 1.8 million worshipers from all over the country on New Year's Day. There are other tourist attractions in the city, such as the temple of Hongan-ji Betsuin, making it one of the prefecture's leading tourist cities. 12．Bungo-Ōno
Bungo-Ōno (豊後大野市, Bungo-Ōno-shi) is a city located in Ōita Prefecture, Japan. The modern city of Bungo-Ōno was established on March 31, 2005, from the merger between the towns of Asaji, Inukai, Mie, Ogata and Ōno, and the villages of Chitose and Kiyokawa (all from Ōno District). As of March 1, 2017, the city has an estimated population of 35,811 and a population density of 59 persons per km². The total area is 603.36 km². In 2012, the growing deer population began to greatly affect the shiitake mushroom farming industry.

13．Yunü
Yunü (Chinese: 玉女; pinyin: Yùnǚ; lit. 'Jade Girl or Jade Maiden') is a goddess in Chinese mythology and Chinese traditional religion who, along with her male counterpart Jintong (Golden Boy), are favored servants of the Jade Emperor and Zhenwudadi. They are originally from the Taoist or Daoist Religion. In the Avatamsaka Sutra, Jintong and Yunü seek enlightenment and are acolytes of the goddess Guan Yin or Goddess of Mercy. In this context, Yunü is called Longnü and Jintong is called Shancai Tongzi.They are also believed to serve as guides in the underworld and the protectors of houses and temples. Some of the statue could be found on some graves at Bukit Brown Cemetery as is believed to serve as guides in the Spirit World or the Underworld. This couple helps virtuous souls over a golden bridge to paradise, and helps souls whose good deeds outweighed the bad, over a silver bridge to paradise. Therefore by erecting the Golden Boy and Jade Maiden by the grave of the deceased, living family members hope that the deceased will not venture into the courts of hell but instead lead their afterlife in paradise.

14．Kunisada
Utagawa Kunisada (Japanese: 歌川国貞; 1786 – 12 January 1865), also known as Utagawa Toyokuni III (三代歌川豊国, Sandai Utagawa Toyokuni), was a Japanese ukiyo-e artist. He is considered the most popular, prolific and commercially successful designer of ukiyo-e woodblock prints in 19th-century Japan. In his own time, his reputation far exceeded that of his contemporaries, Hokusai, Hiroshige and Kuniyoshi.

15．Himeshima, Ōita
Himeshima (姫島村, Himeshima-mura) is a village located in Higashikunisaki District, Ōita Prefecture, Japan. The name Himeshima literally means "Princess Island". The village is on a small island, sometimes referred to as Hime Island, just off the Japanese island of Kyūshū, and is accessible by ferry.As of March 2017, the village has an estimated population of 1,930 and the density of 280 persons per km². The total area is 6.98 km². The main occupations are fishing and shrimp farming. Every summer, there is a Shinto religious ceremony featuring dancers dressed as foxes.There is currently only one school on the island (Himeshima Junior High School was closed due to depopulation, leaving only Himejima Elementary School behind here). In the 2017 Japanese general election, 77.51% of Himeshima's proportional ballots were cast for either one of the two parties in the conservative ruling coalition (the Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito) or one of the two minor LDP-allied conservative parties (Party for Japanese Kokor) and New Party Daichi), making it the most conservative municipality in the country in this election under that definition (excluding Kuroshima Island's 82.76% conservative voting result, as this island is technically a part of Matsuura, Nagasaki and not its own municipality).

Kokonoe (九重町, Kokonoe-machi) is a small town located in Kusu District, Ōita Prefecture, Japan. It promotes its nine onsen, which are occasionally closed due to flooding; it is also the summer headquarters of Labo Camp Kujū, part of the LABO language program. Kokonoe consists mainly of farms, hot springs, and countryside tourist attractions. As of March 2017, the town has an estimated population of 9,804 and the density of 36 persons per km².
